Benefits of Our Own Adult Stem Cells
Everyone is aware of the controversy surrounding embryonic
stem cells.  Stem cells are found in human embryos, but not
everyone is aware that stem cells are also found in adult
tissue.  The most abundant supply of adult stem cells is
formed in the bone marrow.

Stem cells are “master” cells.  In other words, they have
the ability to become any cell within the body.  According
to the National Institute of Health, stem cells have the
remarkable potential to develop into many different cell
types in the body.  Stem cells can theoretically divide
without limit to replenish other cells as long as a person
is alive.  When the stem cell divides, each new cell has
the potential to remain in the bone marrow or become
another type of cell with a more specialized function, such
as: a eye cell, a muscle cell, a liver cell, a skin cell,
etc.  Through a natural process, stem cells circulate to
areas of the body where they are needed and replace
dysfunctional cells.  Adult stem cells also have the
ability to rebuild, renew and rejuvenate the body.  Recent
scientific developments have discovered that stem cells
derived from the bone marrow travel throughout the body,
and act to support optimal organ and tissue function.   The
circulation of millions of additional stem cells in the
bloodstream could be one of the safest and most efficient
methods for maintaining optimal health that science has yet
discovered.   This recent advance in stem cell research was
listed as one the most significant health-related stories
in the past 25 years by CNN, second only to the complete
mapping of the human genome.

Our body requires vitamins, antioxidants and good food,
because they provide the nutrients for healthy tissue, but
they do not provide the building blocks to renew tissues,
bones, organs, or any part of the body.  Traditional
nutritional supplements nourish existing cells; they do not
renew body tissue.  As we get older, the number and quality
of stem cells traveling through our body gradually
declines.  This decline makes us more susceptible to injury
and other health challenges as we age.  A constant release
of our existing stem cells into the bloodstream can produce
incredible health benefits.

By supporting the body’s natural renewal system, we are
able to support the natural process of recovery from
exercise to build strength and stamina.

To summarize, there are no doubts regarding the value of
our own adult stem cells.

This is so much better than just a map of Stonehenge. You can actually go there. Visit the site from the comfort of your desk. I’m talking about a full 360 degree panoramic view from within the famous stone circle. You can zoom in or out, up or down. Get in close and personal with the monumental standing stones. This can be run full screen and is really impressive. Even if you’re not a history buff, you can use this just to impress your friends. If you are a fan of ancient sites and technology, you will enjoy this even more. Take a look for yourself here Stonehenge 360 degree view

Just found some video of the latest version of a quadruped robot designed by U.S. robotics company, Boston Dynamics. The “BigDog” is designed to be used as a pack mule, carrying loads over rough terrain. The really impressive thing is the way this machine actually moves. It walks like an animal, (or as some would say, a four legged tarantula). Slopes, icy snow covered terrain, piles of bricks, no problem. Kick it in the guts and it stumbles, regains it’s balance and keeps on going.

Of course it cost in the region of ten million dollars to develop so it probably won’t be available off the shelf for a while, but I still want one. Have a look at the video, if you have time, also check the videos of the RHEX and LittleDog versions as well from the same company. Rhex can go almost anywhere, even underwater.

LittleDog is just cute. Even though it may have been designed for military use, I can really see a market for this one.

Anyway, here’s the video, enjoy

Watch RHEX go!

And here’s “LittleDog”

Here’s something a little heavier than usual to get into. A story about particle physics and how real science is conducted. Modern physicists on a quest to find what makes matter – matter. It’s all about a search for the “God particle”, otherwise known as the “Higgs Boson”.

The research essentially involves accelerating particles to velocities as close as possible to the speed of light and then smashing them together. We know (or at least, think we know) that matter can be converted to energy and conversely, energy can be converted to matter. Theoretically, smashing high velocity particles together will release a lot energy, some of this energy may then be converted to never before observed forms of sub-atomic particles, some of which, just might be Higgs Boson particles.

Now the theory goes that Higgs Boson particles, or the field that surrounds them, is what gives form to other sub-atomic particles. Without Higgs particles, all you have are packets of energy, with no mass. This Higgs field gives form to everything, permeates everything, gives substance to everything. Hence the God analogy. Higgs particles are everywhere. Well, that’s the simplified version of the theory, and it is just a theory, yet to be proved. These particles have never been observed.

Now the lengths humans will go too just to prove a theory are amazing. Check out the story here The Hunt For the God Particle

In fact, the researchers aren’t too concerned if they don’t find the God particles. They are certain they will still see evidence of some sort of never before seen sub-atomic particles. One version of their experiments hopes to create conditions just like those immediately after the Big Bang. Now that one does concern me a little. How can you create conditions like those after the Big Bang, without actually having a Big Bang?

Makes you think……doesn’t it?
